BE PLAYFUL!

Playfulness, creative expression, trying new things, exploring, improvising, are ALL on my List! We are complex and many layered selves, and using imagination, surprise, and curiosity are very important for helping our brains do problem solving, adapting to WHAT IS, finding perspective, and striving towards harmony as well as adventure! My personal journey has led me to stay youthful by trying new things all the time. I began circus arts, like hooping, juggling, fires pinning and acroyoga, after age 55! My training in movement therapy has proven to me that we MUST Self-Express, or we become mentally unstable. Re-Create Your Self and continue to discover the world thru a Beginner’s Mind, as we are taught in Yoga.

INVERSIONS

Inversions! are simple, effective ways to improve lymphatic circulation, which put them high on my List. Lymphatic fluid is dragged down by gravity, so getting upside down can help relieve swelling and inflammation. I quickly show beginner thru advanced inversions. Great for your internal organs, and relieves pressure on pelvic floor and hips. Easiest, lean your Legs up on a wall. Try a supported Plough by lifting your hips up on a couch, or go for the full Plough. Shoulder Stand and Headstand can be challenging for some people’s necks or heads, so try supported Handstand, from a couch, or against a wall. Go for the safest, most comfortable one, later on you can progress further.

CIRCULAR BREATHING

Circular Breathing [Microcosmic Orbit] also engages a Pelvic Floor Squeeze [Moola Bandha or Kegel]. On my List because it revitalizes the entire body as your breath/energy traces a circle around you. Start by Exhaling fully, and then as you slowly and thoroughly Inhale, imagine: draw the breath up your spine from your perineum [Root Chakra] to top of head [Governing Meridian], and as you Exhale slowly, touch tongue on roof of mouth [Khechari Mudra] to circulate the breath down front of body [Central Meridian]. Optionally, you can make a sound in back of throat [Ujjayi] to emphasize the exhale. Taoist methods develop the subtle body, extra senses, heightened awareness, and sexual [Kundalini] energy. This breath is the foundation for having subtle body orgasms. Yes, it works!

BRAIN MASSAGE

Brain Massage! Increasing circulation in your head is very much on my List. The discovery [UVA Brain Research Lab 2015] of the Lymphatic Meningeal Vessel deep inside the brain confirms that lymphatic drainage massage can effectively reduce amyloid plaque buildup, by accelerating removal of wastes from head. Stimulate the scalp by pressing along the midline. Pull gently and slowly on the ears to open the fascia of entire scalp, and you’ll feel it in the sinuses. Use a slow, circular, pulsing massage from ears down to collarbone. Flush entire face by starting in center, and use a feathering light massage, out toward hairline, always ending at ears, then down sides of neck to clavicle. Scrub scalp, and press up into hairline to relieve tension. Lymphatic fluid is mobilized with SLOW GENTLE PULSING REPETITIVE massage. Breathe, and take your time.

GIBBERISH

Gibberish! Using Sound, your emotions get fully expressed, and that is on my List! Our thoughts and feelings are most easily demonstrated with sound, and using a non-language form gives more freedom to get bigger, louder, and more honest. Suppressed emotions are the hidden illness that strikes deep in the body, affecting immunity, sleep, digestion, and executive brain function. If you’re getting frustrated communicating your needs – to yourself or others – LET IT OUT!! My training in movement therapy teaches that using a “Transitional Object” like a doll, leads to self-reflection, perspective, and transformation. Making up words, sounds, melodies, phrases, and accentuating with gestures, can open up worlds of pent up feelings. Can be fun to do with a partner, too, and share the hidden sides you discover about yourselves!
